A Wingstop employee in Texas is behind bars following accusations of killing his manager and shooting another colleague after a dispute.
Marc Leon, 22, is currently incarcerated at the Dallas County Jail, facing charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to a shooting incident on June 3, as stated by the Irving Police Department in a press release.
Officers from the Irving Police Department responded to the Wingstop location where Leon was employed, arriving around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the release. Upon arrival, they discovered two males at the scene, one deceased and the other sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, the police department reported.
Before law enforcement reached the chicken wing restaurant, Leon had fled on foot, police mentioned. However, patrol officers managed to locate and apprehend Leon within 10 minutes of the shooting, subsequently taking him into custody, with the recovery of a firearm, as per the department’s statement.
Irving police’s investigation revealed that Leon engaged in a verbal altercation with the now-deceased employee, the department indicated. Allegedly, when instructed to leave the Wingstop by the employee, Leon brandished a gun and fired “multiple times,” according to police.
A second employee, who sustained minor injuries, was struck by stray bullets, the police further disclosed.
Although the employee Leon allegedly killed has not been identified by police, an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 4 identified the victim as 19-year-old Christopher Govea.
According to the affidavit cited by Fox 4, Govea served as the manager of the Wingstop and had sent Leon home early on the day of the incident. Leon had been employed at the restaurant for less than a month, the TV station reported, referencing the court document.
Speaking to Fox 4, Govea’s family described him as industrious.
“He was solely focused on his work,” expressed Adrian Hernandez, Govea’s brother-in-law. “His primary goal was to help his parents move forward, especially considering his father’s poor health condition, and his mother’s inability to work as she cared for him. He aimed to provide them with a house, which was his sole motivation for working two jobs.”
Govea was also employed at a grocery store before the tragic incident, Hernandez revealed to the Dallas–Fort Worth-based TV station.
“I just hope the shooter, he repents for what he did and actually thinks about what he did,” Hernandez expressed. “He took someone’s son, someone’s uncle, someone’s brother.”
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Govea’s cousin, Luis Govea, aims to raise funds for funeral expenses. Currently, over $4,200 has been contributed toward the fundraiser’s $10,000 target.
“Regrettably, Christopher Govea’s life was tragically cut short last night while at work. He was the main financial support for his family, and at just 19 years old, he had his whole life ahead of him,” expressed the GoFundMe page.
