Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was arrested on Sunday and charged with second-degree domestic violence/burglary, according to online arrest records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Buggs’ bond was set at $5,000, but it’s unclear as of Sunday afternoon whether he remains in custody, as reported by Tuscaloosa Patch.
This marks the second off-field incident in less than three weeks for the 27-year-old Buggs. In late May, he faced charges of two second-degree animal cruelty misdemeanors in Tuscaloosa. The Tuscaloosa Police Department discovered two malnourished dogs abandoned on the back porch of a residence Buggs was renting. A neighbor informed police that the dogs had been there for at least 10 days, according to reports from ESPN and Patch.com.
Buggs’ agent refuted the allegations of animal cruelty in a statement to ESPN.
Additionally, Patch.com reported in late May that Buggs was involved in two other misdemeanors in Tuscaloosa. He allegedly pushed Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley into other officers during an April arrest and reportedly pointed a gun at a woman outside a hookah lounge he owns.
The NFL could discipline Buggs under the league’s personal conduct policy due to his involvement in these incidents.
Buggs, who hails from Ruston, Louisiana, is entering his sixth NFL season. He previously played for the Detroit Lions from 2022 to 2023 and the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019 to 2021. During his career, Buggs has recorded 89 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble. He joined the Chiefs in March on a futures contract after originally being drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round in 2019.
