Polythene UK, a packaging company based in Oxfordshire, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to tackle plastic waste by introducing a free, mobile collection and compaction scheme. This innovative project aims to collect and compress waste polythene, making it reusable in the company’s plastic wrapping products.
Using a specially equipped van with an onboard compactor, Polythene UK collects, compresses, and repurposes polythene waste. The compacted material is then utilized in the production of new plastic wrapping rolls, effectively closing the recycling loop.

While larger companies have implemented similar recycling initiatives, Polythene UK’s scheme targets smaller businesses and manufacturers, which collectively contribute to a significant portion of polythene waste. Local businesses, such as Spar in Minster Lovell, have welcomed the initiative, recognizing the benefits it offers in reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability. Store director Ian Lewis praised the scheme for its potential to benefit both businesses and the environment.
